From AAA to E - the Battery metaphor you didn’t know you needed. 💭💡

Lessons from a Remote Control

I changed the battery in my remote control today and it got me thinking—life is kind of like batteries. We all need a re-charge, a fresh start, a new source of power sometimes. 🔋

Take AAA batteries. I think of these as Awareness, Accountability, and Action. It might be one of the smaller sized batteries but it has the biggest impact. Think about how many things in your life run on AAA batteries. Then apply those 3 AAA’s to yourself.

Do I have the awareness I need? For myself and for others? Can I look in the mirror and take accountability for what’s not working—or what hasn’t worked? And what can I DO to shift that? Self-awareness is one of the best gifts you can give yourself!

Next up: AA – Acceptance and Adaptability. Your everyday batteries. They are necessary, reliable, and used often. I’ve learned that acceptance is where peace begins. It doesn’t mean you approve, or that you’re giving up. It just means that you stop resisting life’s realities, obstacles, and adversities. That you accept there will be setbacks. With life, with others, with yourself—personally and professionally.

Adaptability is how we move through those setbacks and stressful times, without breaking. We might bend, but part of being adaptable is being flexible.🧘We can always put ourselves back together. These two keep our energies in check and help us respond rather than react. Just like those AA batteries in your remote, clock, or flashlight—these qualities help you keep pushing, even when the lights go out.

Then comes the B battery—not used as often anymore, but still important. For me, B stands for Boundaries. Learning when to say yes, when to say no, and when to walk away. Boundaries protect your peace and create space for healthier relationships—personally and professionally.

They don’t mean shutting people out (though let’s be honest—some people aren’t meant to stay in your life forever). Boundaries are a way of holding onto your power, not giving it away.

Fun fact I learned about the “B” Battery—they were used in things like early radios and flashlights in the early 1900s, and have mostly become obsolete! Not many people know there’s even a B battery—but just like Boundaries, it might be rare, but absolutely essential!

And C… I contemplated with this one. I thought about Control—because so many of us are out here white-knuckling life, trying to manage the overbooked calendars, the chaos, the stress, the problems you wish you could solve.

But life keeps proving that the real power is in Change. I don’t know, maybe it’s BOTH. Control what you can: your thoughts, your choices, your attitude, your reactions. And change what needs to be changed: your habits, your direction, your thoughts, your circle. It’s the tension between control and change where the sparks connect and that growth truly happens.

Along comes D. Bigger and bolder. That’s Determination. The quiet, steady push forward. The showing up when it’s hard. When staying in bed feels easier. When motivation fades, determination carries the load, it’s your internal fuel—and an engine can’t run without fuel!

And finally….E.

Okay, so yes, technically there’s no such thing as an E battery—but that’s kind of the point. We don’t just run on what’s standard or expected—we run on Energy. The kind that fuels your day, your decisions, your direction.

And when that energy runs low, it’s your reminder to recharge.

Just remember, it’s the negative energy that will drain your battery the fastest. Whether it’s coming from your own thoughts, the TV, social media, or the people around you, it adds up. And sometimes, when we’ve been stuck in that space for too long, it takes a little extra time to recharge. That’s okay. Awareness is the first step to plugging back in.

Life gets busy. Batteries run low. And sometimes, we need to swap out the old ones and recharge with something new. Whether it’s a small shift in awareness or a bold step toward change, remember—you’ve already got what you need inside YOU. 🌱💥

I challenge you to ask yourself today: What kind of battery do I need? What batteries do I already have? What’s draining me, and what can power me up again?
